This Friday, multi-GRAMMY winner Brian Lynch will unveil his latest concept album, 7x7by7, released via Hollistic MusicWorks. True to its title, the project revolves around the number seven, presenting seven compositions, each performed by seven musicians and lasting exactly seven minutes. Lynch's novel approach to the album features a modular format that allows different parts of the compositions to be interchanged or reassembled into new pieces, offering limitless possibilities for variation.
Lynch crafted 7x7by7 during the pandemic, blending artistry with mathematical precision. Each track title reflects a seven-year milestone in his life, adding a personal dimension to the project. With seasoned musicians like Craig Handy on tenor sax, pianist Luis Perdomo, and bassist Boris Kozlov, the album promises both virtuosity and innovation. Notably, guitarist Alex Wintz makes his first appearance on a Lynch album since 1993, and the rhythmic foundation is solidified by drummer Kyle Swan and percussionist Murph Aucamp, both contributors to Lynch’s GRAMMY-winning big band project, The Omni-American Book Club.
7x7by7 is more than just a studio album—Lynch plans to release alternative versions and remixes over 49 weeks, exploring the album’s vast potential. These reimaginings reflect Lynch’s commitment to innovation, as does the upcoming live premiere, which integrates live performance with recorded audio and video manipulated in real-time. This hybrid concert experience will debut on October 24 at Gusman Hall at the University of Miami, offering fans a glimpse into Lynch’s forward-thinking vision for Jazz improvisation.
